Dancing Blackbird

dncg bb

My friend, Johnny, makes the most beautiful beaded hatbands. Each one tells a unique story using symbols and colors within the bead work.  Each Hat band has a different spirit animal on the front of it.  From a Blackbird to a Thunderbird, a Spider Mother or Turtle.  Each tells a story of Spirit which is the energy that drives the animal.

Just recently he introduced the  Dancing Blackbird   to his line of hat bands.  If you get a chance go in and take a look at his Story Hat Bands.

Internal Music

Dancing (1)

This Internal Music, this unique sound within each of us was playing constantly when we were children. It lifted our spirits and filled us with a ‘joie de vivre’.

Sadly, all but forgotten now that we have grown into adulthood. We need to bring out the child in us. We need to revive the music inside of us.
We need to listen to each other’s songs.

Solitude

Seeking Solitude is a deliberate choice.  A quiet space or place where one can feel free to savor moments of quiet reflection. To meditate with firm intention. To change old habits with mindful thinking. To recharge your energy. Uplift your mind, body and spirit. Reawaken familiar yearnings.  A place within where thoughts are free to stay.  Or,  go wherever one’s spirit desires. A flight of fancy, a soaring of the imagination. All this and more can be achieved when in quiet solitude.

Thought Flash

I had a ‘thought flash’ the other day which got me thinking about my youth and possible influences I was exposed to without really searching them out. Age 13 up to age 16 seems, to me, to be a time when young people start making their own choices about the music they listen to, the books they read and how they perceive art. My awareness years were between 1966 and 1969. The three people that caught my attention during this period were Bob Dylan, Gunter Grass and Andy Warhol. One wonders whether the impressions these three made upon me at that young age have remained intact throughout the years till this present day. A question that will probably be left unanswered because as we mature and begin to mix socially, we are constantly being swayed, and sometimes not, by others’ thoughts, beliefs and opinions. As we grow physically, mentally and spiritually and become one with our own thinking self we can only look back to those first days when we experimented with the influences of  writers, musicians and artists. Some of us will make use of what we learned from them, good or bad, and some of us won’t.

Bob Dylan
Destiny is a feeling you have that you know something about yourself nobody else does. The picture you have in your own mind of what you’re about will come true. It’s a kind of a thing you kind of have to keep to your own self, because it’s a fragile feeling, and you put it out there, then someone will kill it. It’s best to keep that all inside. – Bob Dylan (The Bob Dylan Scrapbook, 1956-1966)

Gunter Grass

Today I know that everything watches, that nothing goes unseen, and that even wallpaper has a better memory than ours. It isn’t God in His Heaven that sees all. A kitchen chair, a coat-hanger, a half-filled ash tray, or the wooden replica of a woman named Niobe, can perfectly well serve as an unforgetting witness to every one of our acts. – Gunter Grass (The Tin Drum)

Andy Warhol
When people are ready to, they change. They never do it before then, and sometimes they die before they get around to it. You can’t make them change if they don’t want to, just like when they do want to, you can’t stop them. – Andy Warhol

Indifference

Every so often I have come across someone who practices the Art of Indifference… and believe me, it is an Art.  I wonder to myself if this is something that they have learned along Life’s way, from a parent or has it been there within the very core of their beings right from the start? Out of all the emotions, I think indifference is the most calculating of them all. Only when you are on the receiving end of indifference do you feel the impact of its power. We can overcome anger, we can change attitudes with love but as long as indifference stands in our way, nothing will change. The person who holds indifference close to their heart in the end, has no heart.

Lighted Flame

At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us ~ Albert Schweitzer

It doesn’t happen very often, if ever, that someone comes along and rekindles that
spark of life energy within us.  Especially when we have lived a full life and get to
a point where we feel that perhaps we have experienced all that we deserve in this
illusion called ‘Life’.   So, when that someone appears, seemingly out of nowhere,
and shakes things up a bit. Embrace and Engage.
